Ask anything

No question is too basic. This is the thread for anything not covered elsewhere: rules, submissions, timezones, whether your idea counts, what "games for good" actually means, or anything you're stuck on.

Some things people usually want to know:

"Does my idea count as games for good?" Probably yes. If you can explain who it helps and how, it counts. Post the idea here and we'll tell you.

"What if I don't finish?" Submit anyway. An unfinished game that gets submitted can win Best Beginner Project. A finished game that never gets submitted can't win anything.

"Can I start early?" Ideas, research, learning your tools and forming a team: yes, all encouraged. Code and assets: no, not until kickoff.

"Do I have to be awake for 48 hours?" No. Please sleep. Sessions are recorded and posted within the hour. Please sleep. Please do.

"I'm 13 and everyone else is probably 17." Come anyway. The age range is 13–18 and there's a Best Beginner category for exactly this reason.

Ask below. We check this daily.

Cactus asked "Can I use Roblox Studio to create the game?" in their registration — YES, you can use Roblox Studio. If the judges can access it easily, you can use it, if not I'll be judging on their behalf.

Hi! I’m planning to build an educational 3D browser game for the hackathon.

I understand that code and assets must be created during the event. However, I’d like to clarify one thing: are AI-generated 3D models (using tools like Meshy) allowed if they’re generated during the official 48-hour period?

Also, can we use pre-existing, properly licensed third-party 3D asset packs?

    Thank you!

    Hi Leonardo!

AI-generated 3D models are completely allowed within the project using tools like Meshy. You can use licensed third-party 3D asset packs if you desire it - if you're building within an egine, we recommend you look within that engine's Marketplace (Unreal Marketplace, Unity Asset Store, etc etc) to search for free asset packs you can use to brainstorm ideas and environment, or online free sources like Sketchfab!

    Happy Building!
